ஒருதாய் வயிற்றி னிடையே யுதித்து

பழசா யிரைப்பொ டிளையா விருத்த
பரிதாப முற்று	மடியாமுன்
பரிவா லுளத்தில் முருகா எனச்சொல்
பகர்வாழ் வெனக்கு	மருள்வாயே

இமையோர் தமக்கு	மரசாகி
எதிரேறு மத்த மதவார ணத்தில்

Paraphrase

ஒழுகு ஊன் இரத்தமொடு தோலுடுத்தி (ozhu kUn iraththamodu thOl uduththi) : This body with skin covering oozing flesh and blood,

உயர் கால் கரத்தின் உருவாகி (uyar kAl karaththin uruvAgi) : in which well-defined arms and legs have taken shape;

ஒருதாய் வயிற்றின் இடையே உதித்து (oru thAy vayitrin idaiyE udhiththu) : and I was born from the womb of a mother.

உழல் மாயமிக்கு வரு காயம் (uzhal mAya mikku varu kAyam) : This body is fully submerged in maya or delusion, which is the cause for mental turmoil,

பழசாய் இரைப்பொடு இளையா விருத்த (pazhasAy iraippodu iLaiyA viruththa) : and upon reaching old age, gets battered and exhausted due to gasping; விருத்தன் (viruththan) : old; இரைப்பு (iraippu) : breathlessness;

பரிதாபம் உற்று மடியா முன் (parithApam utru madiyA mun) : Before it dies miserably,

பரிவால் உளத்தில் முருகா எனச் சொல் பகர் வாழ்வு எனக்கும் அருள்வாயே (parivAl uLaththil murugA enach chol pagar vAzhvu enakkum aruLvAyE ) : kindly grant me that I utter Your name as "MurugA!" with earnest devotion from my heart:

எழு வானகத்தில் இருநாலு திக்கில் இமையோர் தமக்கும் அரசாகி (ezhu vAn agaththil irunAlu dhikkil imaiyOr thamakkum arasAgi) : The king of all the devas living in the seven celestial lands and in all the eight directions,

எதிரேறு மத்த மத வாரணத்தில் இனிதேறு (edhir ERu maththa madha vAraNaththil inidhERu ) : who mounts happily the wild elephant, AirAvadham,

கொற்றமுடன் வாழும் (kotram udanvAzhum) : and lives with his relatives,

செழுமா மணிப்பொன் நகர் (sezhumA maNippon nagar ) : in the prosperous and beautiful capital city AmarAvathi.

பாழ் படுத்து செழு தீ விளைத்து மதிள் கோலி திடமோடு அரக்கர் கொடு போய் அடைத்த (pAzh paduththu sezhu thee viLaiththu madhiLkOli dhidamOd arakkar kodupOy adaiththa) : The demons destroyed the fortresses of this Amaravati city and set them on fire and then imprisoned the celestials.
