Paraphrase

நாம் இறைவனை அறிந்து கொள்ள முழு ஈடுபாட்டுடன் முயன்றால் அவனே அதற்கு துணை புரிவான். அருணகிரிநாதர் முருகனான அந்த பரம்பொருளை 'உசாத் துணை' என்று அழைக்கிறார். நம் தேடுதலுக்கு அவனே வழித்துணையாக இருப்பான்.

The first three lines entreat the Lord to impart the spiritual incantation that is beyond the reach of mind but is close to the heart (the poet calls it அனிதய வார்த்தை) and describes it as under.

சருவிய சாத்திரத் திரளான (saruviya sAththirath thiraLAna) : It is the substance of all well known ShastrAs (holy writings). அது நன்கு பழக்கமான எல்லாச் சாத்திரங்களின் திரண்ட சாராம்சப் பொருளானது ; சருவிய (saruviya) : பழகிய;

சடு திகழ் ஆஸ்பதத்து அமையாத (sadu thigazh ASpathaththu amaiyAtha) : It cannot be contained in the six kundalini centres. விளங்குகின்ற ஆறு ஆதாரங்களில் பொருந்தி அடங்காதது அது.; சடு (sadu) : (षट) six; ஆஸ்பதம் (Aspatham) : ஆதாரம்;

அருமறையாற் பெறற்கு அரிதாய (arumaRaiyAR peRaRku arithAya) : It is beyond the reach and comprehension of even the rare scriptures. வேதங்களால் பெறுதற்கு அரிதான

அனிதய வார்த்தையைப் பெறுவேனோ (anithaya vArththaiyaip peRuvEnO) : will I ever be able to acquire this distinctive word that is incomprehensible for the mind? இதயத்துக்கு (மனதுக்கு) எட்டாத அந்த உபதேச மொழியைப் பெறுகின்ற பாக்கியம் எனக்குக் கிட்டுமா?

நிருதரை மூக்கறுத்து (nirutharai mUkkaRuththu) : You put the demons to shame; அரக்கர்களை அவமானம் செய்து,

எழுபார நெடுதிரை ஆர்ப்பெழப் பொருதோனே (ezhupAra neduthirai yArppezhap poruthOnE) : and stirred up the seven wide wavy seas, raising a tumultuous noise when You battled! ஏழு பெரிய கடல்களிலும் பேரொலி உண்டாகுமாறு போர் செய்தவனே,

பொருள் அடியாற் பெறக் கவிபாடும் (poruL adiyAR peRak kavipAdum) : those who compose songs expounding the True Universal Substance by the grace of Your hallowed feet, உண்மைப் பொருளை உன் திருவடித் துணையால் பெறுவதற்காக பாடல்களைப் பாடும்

புலவர் உசாத் துணைப் பெருமாளே.(pulavar usAththuNaip perumALE.) : You are the best ally for those devoted poets, Oh Great One! உசா (usa) : Subtle examination, close enquiry into niceties; ஆராய்ச்சி; உசாத் துணை(usAth thuNai) : உற்ற துணை/ஆராய்ச்சிக்கு துணை செய்யும்;
