ஆசார வீ(ஹீ)னன் அறிவிலி (AchAra veenan aRivili) : I lack the discipline to observe prescribed religious rites; I am stupid;

கோப அபராதி அவகுணன் (kOpa aparAthi avaguNan) : I commit many crimes due to my foul temper; I am very vicious;

ஆகாத நீசன் அநுசிதன் விபரீதன் (AakAtha neesan anusithan vipareethan) : I am lowly and useless person; I indulge in forbidden acts; and I am very controversial. ஆகாத நீசன்(AakAtha neesan) : யாருக்கும் பயனாகாத இழிந்த குணத்தவன்;

ஆசா விசார வெகு வித மோக ஆசரீத பரவசன் (AachA vichAra veguvitha mOga Aasareetha paravasan) : Thinking only about the three desires (namely, acquisition of property, women and gold), I have committed many a lustful act without self-control.

ஆகாச நீர் மண் அனல் வளி உருமாறி (AakAsa neer maN anal vaLi urumARi) : By the various permutations and combinations of the five elements, namely the sky, water, earth, fire and air, ஆகாயம், நீர், மண், தீ, காற்று என்ற பஞ்சபூதச் சேர்க்கையால் வெவ்வேறு பிறவிகளில் பல உடல்களை எடுத்து,

மாசான நாலெண் வகைதனை (mAsAna nAl eN vagaithanai) : I have taken birth in several bodies with thirty-two types of contaminated tenets; குற்றங்களுடன் கலந்த முப்பத்திரண்டு தத்துவங்களைக் கொண்ட

நீ நான் எனாத அறிவுளம் வாயாத பாவி (nee nAn enAtha aRivuLam vAyAtha pAvi) : I have been a sinner incapable of realising that there is no distinction between You and me.

இவன் என நினையாமல் (ivan ena ninaiyAmal) : Please do not shun me because of all these bad qualities in me.

மாதா பிதாவின் அருள் நல மாறா மகாரில் (mAthA pithAvin aruL Nala mARA magAril) : Like the steadfast loving acts of the parents for their children, தாய் தந்தையரின் அன்பும் அருட் செயல்களும் நீங்காத குழந்தைகள் போல; மகார் (magaar) : புதல்வர், பாலர், மக்கள்; ;

எனை இனி மா ஞான போதம் அருள் செய நினைவாயே (enai yini mAnjAna pOtha maruLseya ninaivAyE) : kindly consider about preaching to me so that I can realise the great and true knowledge. உன் குழந்தையாகிய என்மீத இனிமேலாயினும் அம்மையப்பனாகிய நீ சிறந்த ஞானோபதேசத்தை உபதேசித்தருள் செய்வதற்கு திருவுள்ளத்தில் நினைத்தருளுவாயாக

வீசால/விசால வேலை சுவறிட (veesAla/visaala vElai suvaRida) : The wide ocean completely dried up;

மா சூரர் மார்பு தொளை பட (mAchUrar mArbu thoLaipada) : the chests of the huge demons were pierced;

வேதாள ராசி பசி கெட (vEthALa rAsi pasi keda) : and the hunger of the devils was satiated;

அறை கூறி மேக ஆரவாரம் என அதிர் போர் (aRai kURi mEga AravAram ena athir pOr) : when You called the demons, roaring like the thunder, challenging them to come to the battlefield,

யாது தானர் எமபுர மீதேற (yAthu thAnar emapura meethERa) : and sent away the YAdhus and DhanavAs to the land of Yaman (God of Death), 'யாது தானர்' திதியின் மக்கள் யாதுக்கள்/தைத்தியர்கள்; தனுவின் மக்கள் தானவருமாகிய அரக்கர்கள். பிரம்மாவின் மகனாகிய தட்சப்பிரசாபதியின் அறுபது மகள்களில் ஒருவர்கள் தான் திதியும் தனுவும். இருவருமே காசியபர் முனிவரின் பதிமூன்று மனைவிகளில் ஒருவர்கள்.

கூசாது வேடன் உமிழ் தரு நீராடி (kUsAthu vEda numizhtharu neerAdi) : When the hunter (Kannappan) showered his saliva on the 'siva-lingam', He bathed in it unhesitatingly; கொஞ்சமும் தயங்காது வேடன் கண்ணப்பன் வாயினின்று உமிழ்ந்த நீர் அபிஷேகத்தைப் பெற்றுக்கொண்டு;

ஊன் உண் எனும் உரை கூறா (Un uN enum urai kURA ) : Saying "this is tasty meat; please accept it"

மன் ஈய அவனுகர் தரு சேட(ஷ)ம் (man eeya avanugar tharusEdam) : when the hunter offered partly-eaten meat, நிரம்பவும் அவன் தருவதை, அந்த வேடன் எச்சில் செய்து தந்த மீதம்; சேட(ஷ)ம்(sEd(sh)am) : left-over, மிச்சப்பொருள், கழிந்தமீதி, எச்சில்; மன் (man) : பெருமை, மிகுதி;

கோதாம் எனாமல் அமுது செய் (kOthAm enAmal amuthu sey) : He did not consider it as blemished and accepted that food with relish as if it were nectar; கோதாம் எனாமல்(kOthAm enAmal) : குற்றமுள்ளது என்று பாவிக்காமல்;

வேத ஆகமாதி முதல் தரு கோ ( vEtha AgamAthi muthal tharu kO) : He is the primordial Lord SivA who is above all scriptures; and You are the Leader delivered to us by Him!

லோக நாத குறமகள் பெருமாளே. (lOka nAtha kuRamakaL perumALE.) : You govern the entire universe! You are the consort of VaLLi, the damsel of the KuRavAs, Oh Great One!
