Paraphrase
Who are we when compared to the Omnipotent and Eternal Lord? Everything happens as He wills and deems fit. We are imperfect in physical and mental attributes; we cannot discern, direct, choose, plan and execute any action or act entirely of our own volition. We follow the dictates of karma that are deeply buried in our mind. Saint Arunagirinathar repeatedly asks the rhetoric question 'who am I to behave in a certain way'?

**Saiva Siddhanta speaks about four stages, sAloka = living in the same world as Siva. sAmeepa = living very close to Siva. sArupa = having the same form of Siva with all powers excepting the powers of creation and destruction, and sAyujya= merging with Siva. A true Siva devotee reaches the world of Siva and be there as one of the gaNAs. Then he goes Sameepa - being very near to Siva as one of the closest devotees. Then comes Sarupa, having the same form as Siva Himself. Then finally, Sayujya — that is merging with Siva.
