உறவின் முறை கதறி அழ ஊராரும் ஆசை அற (uRavin muRai kadhaRi azha UrArum AsaiyaRa) : My relatives wail and the people in the town despair of all hopes of reviving me;
பறை திமிலை முழவின் இசை ஆகாச(ம்) மீது உற (paRai thimilai muzhavin isai AkAsa meedhumuRa) : the noise from the beats of paRai, thimilai and other drums reach the sky;
உலகில் உள பலர் அரிசி வாய் மீதிலே சொரியும் அந்த நாளில் (ulagil uLa palar arisi vAy meedhilE sOriyum andha nALil) : all the people in the world shower handful of raw rice into my mouth; on this very day,
உனது முக கருணை மலர் ஓராறும் (unadhu muga karuNai malar OrARum) : (will You not come) with Your six gracious and holy faces,
ஆறு இரு கை திரள் புயமும் எழில் பணி கொள் வார் காது நீள் விழியும் (ARirukai thiraL buyamum ezhil paNi koL vAr kAdhu neeL vizhiyum) : with sturdy shoulders attached to Your twelve holy arms, with Your ears in a row neatly wearing pretty studs, Your long eyes, பணி (paNi) : ornaments, ஆபரணம், குண்டலம்;

மறை அறைய அமரர் தரு பூமாரியே சொரிய (maRai aRaiya amarar tharu pUmAriyE soriya) : against the background of VEdic hymns, as the celestials shower the KaRpaga flowers, அமரர் தரு(amarar tharu) : celestial tree, karpaga tree;
மது ஒழுகு (உ)தர வில் மணி மீதே முன்னூல் ஒளிர (madhu ozhugu (u)thara vil maNimeedhE munUloLira:) : with Your sacred thread eminently showing over the fresh garland of honey-oozing flowers, தேன் ஒழுகும் மணி மாலையின் மேல் பூணூல் விளங்க; வில் மணி (vil maNi) : ஒளி பொருந்திய மணி; ;
மயிலின் மிசை அழகு பொலி ஆளாய் முன் ஆர் அடியர் வந்து கூட (mayilin misai azhagu poli ALAy munAr adiyar vandhu kUda) : as the handsome hero majestically mounting Your Peacock, with a host of Your devotees assembled in front of You,
மறலி படை யமபுரமும் மீது ஓடவே பொருது (maRali padai yamapuramu meedhOdavE porudhu) : after waging a war with the armies of Yaman scaring and chasing them away to their world,
விருது பல முறை முறையிலே ஊதி வாது செய்து (virudhupala muRai muRaiyilE Udhi vAdhu seydhu) : blowing many trumpets of triumph one after the other and debating successfully against all Your challengers, பல வெற்றிச் சின்னங்களை வரிசை வரிசையாக ஊதி, உன்னுடன் வாது செய்பவர்களைத் தர்க்கித்து வென்று,
மதலை ஒரு குதலை அடி நாயேனை ஆள இ(ங்)ஙன் வந்திடாயோ (madhalai oru kudhalai adi nAyEnai ALa ingan vandhidAyO) : will You not come here to protect this lowly dog, Your prattling child?
பிறை எயிறு முரண் அசுரர் பேராது பாரில் விழ (piRai eyiRu muraN asurar pErAdhu pAril vizha) : The rebellious asuras, whose teeth were of the shape of the crescent moon, fell dead on the battleground without returning home;
அதிர எழு புவி உலகம் ஈரேழும் ஓலம் இட (adhira ezhu buvi ulagam eerEzhum Olam ida) : this planet earth, with seven island-continents, shuddered; people in all the fourteen worlds screamed in fear;
பிடி களிறின் அடல் நிரைகள் பாழாகவே (pidi kaLiRin adal niraigaL pAzhAgavE) : many herds of strong elephants were destroyed; பிடி(pidi) : female elephant; களிறு (kaLiRu) : male elephant;
திசையில் நின்ற நாகம் பிரிய (dhisaiyil nindra nAgam piriya) : the eight strong elephants that guard all the directions ran helter skelter leaving their posts;
நெடு மலை இடிய மா வாரி தூளி எழ (nedumalai idiya mAvAri thULi ezha ) : the tall mountains were uprooted; the vast seas dried up raising clouds of dust;
பெரியது ஒரு வயிறுடைய மா காளி கூளியொடு பிண நிணமும் உணவு செய்து(periyadhu oru vayiRudaiya mAkALi kULiyodu piNaniNamum uNavu seydhu) : Maha KALi, with a pot-belly, and Her clan of devils devoured the flesh and meat of the corpses, கூளி (kooLi) : பேய்;
பேயோடும் ஆடல் செய வென்ற தீரா (pEyOdum Adalseya vendra dheerA) : and danced merrily with the fiends in the battlefield, when You waged the war and won, Oh valorous One!
குற மறவர் கொடி அடிகள் கூசாது போய் வருட (kuRamaRavar kodi adigaL kUsAdhu pOy varuda) : In order that You could caress, without any hesitation, the petite feet of VaLLi, the creeper-like damsel of the KuRavAs,
கரடி புலி திரி கடிய வாரான கானில் மிகு குளிர் கணியின் இள மரமதே ஆகி (karadi puli thiri kadiya vArAna kAnil migu kuLir kaNiyin iLa maramadhE Agi) : You went to the formidable and deep forest where bears and tigers roam about, and assumed the disguise of a cool and young kino tree; வாரான = நீண்ட; கணி = வேங்கை மரம்; வேங்கை மரப்பட்டை சர்க்கரை நோய்க்கும் தோல் சம்பந்தமான நோய்களுக்கும் மற்றும் குளிர்ச்சியைத் தரும் விசேஷ குணம் படைத்தது; ) Pterocarpus marsupium, kino tree native to India (where it occurs in parts of the Western Ghats in the Karnataka-Kerala region and in the forests of Central India), Nepal, and Sri Lanka;

அமரர் வான் நாடர் பேண அருள் தம்பிரானே. (amarar vAnAdar pENa aruL thambiranE.) : You bless the immortal celestials who ardently worship You, Oh Great One!
