Paraphrase

ஆரவாரமாயிருந்து (Ara vAramAy irundhu) : While I am leading a pompous life, ஆடம்பரமாய் காலம் கழித்து வரு நாளில்,

ஏம தூதரோடி வந்து ( Ema dhUthar Odi vandhu ) : I shall face the messengers of Yaman (God of Death) who will come running to me.

ஆழி வேலை போன் முழங்கி அடர்வார்கள் (Azhi vElai pOn muzhangi adarvArgaL) : They will roar like the waves of the ocean and advance towards me.

ஆக மீதிலே சிவந்து ஊசி தானுமே நுழைந்து (Aga meedhilE sivandhu Usi thAnumE nuzhaindhu) : With anger, they will thrust needles into my body.

ஆலை மீதிலே கரும்பு எனவே தான் (Alai meedhilE karumbu enavEthAn) : They will squeeze my body as if it were sugarcane being crushed in the mill.

வீரமான சூரி கொண்டு நேரை நேரையே பிளந்து வீசுவார்கள் ( veera mAna sUri koNdu nErai nEraiyE piLandhu veesuvArgaL) : They will take a powerful sword and dissect my body and throw away the pieces.

கூகு வென்று அழு போது (kUku vendru azhu pOdhu) : (When I am going through this torture) there will be so much of crying and wailing going on;

வீடு வாசலான பெண்டிர் ஆசையான மாதர் வந்து மேலை வீழ்வர் ( veedu vAsal Ana peNdir AsaiyAna mAdhar vandhu mElai veezhvar) : the womenfolk from my household and all those women who loved me will assemble and fall upon my body.

ஈது கண்டு வருவாயே (eedhu kaNdu varuvAyE) : Seeing this pathetic scene, kindly come to bless me.

நாரி வீரி சூரி அம்பை (nAri veeri sUri ambai) : She is Devi; She is valorous; She is frightening; She is the Mother;

வேத வேதமே புகழ்ந்த நாதர் பாலிலேயிருந்த மகமாயி (vEdha vEdhamE pugazhndha nAthar pAlilE irundha magamAyi) : She is the Primordial Mother who is seated on the left side of the Leader (SivA) who is adulated by all the VEdAs; மகமாயி (magamaayi) : அண்ட சராசரங்களை ஆட்டுவிக்கின்ற பெரும் மாய சக்தி ;

நாடி ஓடி வாற அன்பர் காண வேணதே புகழ்ந்து (nAdi Odi vARa anbar kANa vENadhE pugazhndhu) : She is lauded extensively by the devotees running to Her seeking Her audience,

நாளு நாளுமே புகன்ற வரை மாது (nALu nALumE pugandra varai mAdhu) : and is worshipped everyday; She is the daughter of Mount HimavAn;

நீரின் மீதிலே இருந்த நீலி (neerin meedhilE irundha neeli) : She has the blue complexion of Vishnu who slumbers on the milky ocean (She is in the form of Vishnu-Shakthi); பாற்கடலில் பள்ளி கொண்ட நீல நிறத்து திருமாலின் அம்சமான விஷ்ணுசக்தி / வைஷ்ணவி,

சூலி வாழ்வு மைந்த (sUli vAzhvu maindha) : and She holds the trident in Her hand. She is Mother UmA, and You are Her Treasure and Her Son! சூலம் ஏந்தியவள் - ஆகிய உமைக்குச் செல்வமாக அமைந்த மைந்தனே,

நீப மாலையே புனைந்த குமரேசா ( neepa mAlaiyE puNaindha kumarEsA) : You wear the garland made of kadappa flowers, Oh Lord Kumara!

நீலனாக ஓடி வந்த சூரை வேறு வேறு கண்ட (neela nAga Odi vandha sUrai vERu vERu kaNda:) : SUran, who came running to You assuming various forms, was shattered to pieces, கறுத்த உடலுடன் ஓடி வந்த (அல்லது கொடியவனாக ஓடிவந்த) சூரபத்மாவை வேறுவேறு உருவம் எடுக்கச் செய்த அல்லது துண்டம் துண்டமாகப் பிளந்தெறிந்த நியாயமூர்த்தியான ஒப்பற்ற குழந்தைப் பெருமாளே! நீலன் = கொடியவன்;
