Paraphrase

The first half of the poem describes Parvati and seeks the blessings of her son Murugan.

பச்சை ஒண் கிரி போல் இரு மா தனம் (pachchai oN giripOl iru mA thana) : Her twin breasts like green and bright mountains, ஒண் (oN) : luminous;
திருஞானசம்பந்தர், மதுரையில் சமணரோடு நடத்திய அனல் வாதத்தின்போது, திருநள்ளாறு தலப் பதிகமான போகமார்த்த பூண்முலையாள் என்ற பதிகத்தை அனலில் இட, அது தீப்பற்றாமல், பச்சைப் பதிகமாய் நின்று, சைவத்தை நிலைநாட்டியததை நினைவு கூர்ந்து தமது பாடலையும் தேவியின் திருமுலை வர்ணனையாகப் "பச்சை யொண்கிரி போலிரு மாதனம்" எனத் துவக்கி இருக்கிறார்.

உற்று இதம் பொறி சேர் குழல் (utru itham poRi sEr kuzhal) : Her hair with bees hovering over them in blissful joy; பொறி(poRi) : beetles, bees;

வாள் அயில் பற்று புண்டரிகாம் என ஏய் கயல் விழி (vAL ayil patru puNdarikAm ena Ey kayal vizhi) : Her kayal-fish-like eyes sparkle like the spear ('vel') and the lotus; புண்டரிகம் என ஏய் (puNdarikAm ena Ey) : can be said to have the attributes/qualities of the lotus, தாமரையின் தகைமையது என்று சொல்லத் தக்கது; ஏய்தல் = ஒத்து இருத்தல்; வாள் அயில் பற்று(vAL ayil patru) : like the radiant spear, ஒளி கொண்ட வேல் போன்றது;

ஞான பத்தி வெண் தரளம் எனும் வாள் நகை (nyAnA baththi veN tharaLAm enum vAL nagai) : Her teeth are like white pearls arranged neatly in a row of radiant wisdom; தரளம் (tharaLam) : pearls; வாள் நகை (vAL nagai) : radiant smile/teeth, ஒளிவீசும் பற்கள் : பத்தி (paththi) : row, வரிசை:

வித்ருமம் சிலை போல் நுதல் ஆரிதழ் பத்ம செண்பகமாம் (vidhrumam silai pOl nudhal Aridhazh padhma seNpaga mAm ) : Her forehead is like a bow; Her lips are comparable to coral, lotus and sheNbaga (champak) flowers; வித்ருமம் (vithrumam) : coral; வித்ருமம் சிலை போல் நுதலாளிதழ் = சிலை போல் நுதல், வித்ருமம்போல் இதழ்; அதாவது, வில்லுக்கு ஒப்பான நெற்றியையும், வித்ருமம் - பவளம், (பத்மம்) தாமரை, செண்பகம் இவைக்கு ஒப்பான இதழையும் (உடைய)

அநுபூதியின் அழகாளென்று (anubUthiyin azhagALendru) : (ஞான அருட் பிரகாசம் / அனுபவம்);
Her blissful beauty is realisable only through experience.

இச்சை அந்தரி பார்வதி மோகினி (ichchai anthari pArvathi mOhini) : She is the enchanting Goddess (Mohini) PArvathi in the form of the Supreme Cosmos, granting all wishes. அந்தரி (anthari) : living alone, living in the cosmic space, Durga; இச்சை அந்தரி (ichchai anthari) : விரும்பும் எல்லாவற்றையும் பூர்த்தி செய்யும் ஆகாய வாணி;

தத்தை பொன் கவின் ஆல் இலை போல் வயிறு (thaththai pon kavin Alilai pOl vayiRu ) : She is like a parrot. Her belly is like the golden banyan leaf. தத்தை (thathai) : parrot; கவின் (kavin) : beautiful;

இல் பசும் கிளியான மின் நூல் இடை அபிராமி (il pasum kiLiyAna minUlidai abirAmi) : She is the green parrot who leads the traditional family life. Her waistline is slender like the lightning and a thread. She is exceedingly beautiful. இல் பசும் கிளியான (il pasum kiLiyAna) : young parrot leading sweet house-hold life, இல்லறம் நடத்தும் பச்சைக் கிளி

எக்குலம் குடிலோடு உலகி(ல்) யாவையும் (ekkulam kudilOdu ulagi yAvaiyum ) : For the benefit of the entire world, irrespective of any lineage or any physical body, எல்லாக் குலத்தாருக்கும், எல்லா உடலுக்கும், உலகங்கள் எவைக்கும், இருந்த இடத்தில் இருந்தே

இல் பதிந்து இரு நாழி நெலால் அறம் எப்பொதும் பகிர்வாள் (il padhindhu iru nAzhi nelAl aRam eppodhum pagirvAL) : She evenly distributes to everyone at all times, (thirty-two) religious duties with two measures of paddy, without moving away from Her abode.

குமரா என உருகேனோ (kumarA ena urugEnO) : You are the son of that PArvathi - why do I not simply melt praising You with such words?

கச்சையும் திரு வாளும் இராறுடை பொற்புயங்களும் (kachchaiyum thiru vALum irARudai poR buyangaLum) : Your waistband, bright sword, twelve beautiful shoulders,

வேலும் ஈராறு உள கண் சிவம் கமல முகம் ஆறு உள முருகோனே (vElum irARu uLa kaN sivam kamalA mugam ARu uLa murugOnE) : the spear, twelve eyes and six hallowed lotus faces — You have all this, Oh MurugA! சிவம் () : auspicious, மங்களமான;

கற்பகம் திரு நாடு உயர் வாழ்வுற (kaRpagam thiru nAdu uyar vAzhvuRa) : The holy land of the celestials, which has the wish-yielding KaRpaga Tree, regained its prosperity; கற்பகம் திரு நாடு (kaRpagam thiru nAdu) : the prosperous land of celestials where there are karpaga trees, கற்பக மரங்கள் உள்ள செல்வம் நிறைந்த பொன்னுலகம் ;

சித்தர் விஞ்சையர் மாகர் சபாசென(sidhdhar vinjaiyar mAgar sabAshena) : the SidhdhAs (achievers through penance), vinjayars (performing artists) and the DEvAs hailed You by cheering with the word "SabAsh"; விஞ்சையர் (vinjaiyar) : learned; மாகர் (mAgar) : celestials;

கட்ட வெங்கொடு சூர் கிளை வேரற விடும் வேலா (katta vengodu sUr kiLai vEraRa vidum vElA) : when You threw Your spear to annihilate the vexatious and evil demons and their clan, Oh Lord! துன்பம் தரும் சூரனுடைய சுற்றத்தார் யாவரும் வேரோடு அழிய விடும் வேலைச் செலுத்தியவனே! கட்ட = கஷ்ட, துன்பம் தரும்; வெம் கொடு = மிகக் கொடிய;

நச்சு வெண் பட மீதணைவார் (nachchu veN pada meedhu aNaivAr) : He slumbers on the bed of the serpent, Adhiseshan, with a poisonous white hood; வெண் பட மீது (veN pada meedhu) : on top of the white-hooded serpent (Adisesha), வெண்ணிறப் படம் உடைய ஆதிசேடன் மேல் ;

முகில் பச்சை வண் புயனார் கருடாசனர் (mugil pachchai vaN buyanAr garudAsanar ) : His broad shoulders bear the complexion of dark cloud and emerald green; He mounts the eagle, Garuda;

நற் கரம் தநு கோல் வளை நேமியர் மருகோனே (naR karam dhanu kOl vaLai nEmiyar marugOnE) : He holds in His hallowed hands a bow (SArangam), arrows, a conch shell (Panchajanyam) and a wheel (Sudharsanam); He is Lord Vishnu, and You are His nephew! நேமி (nEmi) : the discus-weapon, சக்ராயுதம்; நேமியர் (nEmiyar) : Vishnu , சக்கரம் கொண்ட திருமால்;

நற் புனம் தனில் வாழ் வளி நாயகி ( nal punam thanil vAzh vaLi nAyagi) : The damsel VaLLi lived in a nice millet field;

இச்சை கொண்டு ஒரு வாரண மாதொடு ( icchai koNdoru vAraNa mAdhodu) : You won her love, and then, along with DEvayAnai, வாரண மாது (vaaraNa mAthu) : the maiden reared by the elephant AirAvadham;

நத்தி வந்து நளாறுறை தேவர்கள் பெருமாளே.(naththi vandhu naLARuRai thEvargaL perumALE) : You sought to be seated with relish in ThirunaLLARu. You are the Lord of the DEvAs, Oh Great One!
